PCL 8 - The Gross Anatomy of the Calf and Knee Joint

Hi, guys, since we're using a different approach this time, we'll be discussing the gross anatomy of the calf in a clinically-related manner! =) HOLLISTIC APPROACH muahaha
And we'll be coordinating the presentation with the neurovascular people, knee joint and fracture people. LOL

Bones: Tibia and Fibula

Clinical Significance:
- Tibial Fractures
- Fibular Fractures
- Fractures involving Epiphysial Plates

Muscles and its main action:
Anterior Compartment
- Tibialis anterior
- Extensor digitorum longus
- Extensor hallucis longus
- Fibularis tertius
Lateral Compartment
- Fibularis longus
- Fibularis brevis
Posterior Compartment
Superficial
- Gastrocnemius
- Soleus
- Plantaris
Deep
- Popliteus
- Flexor hallucis longus
- Flexor digitorum longus
- Tibialis posterior

Clinical Significance:
- Popliteal Pulse
- Popliteal Aneurysm and hemorrhage
- Injury to tibial nerve
- containment and spread of Compartmental Infections in the leg
- Tibialis anterior Strain (Shin Splints)
- Superficial and Deep Fibular nerve entrapment
- Calcaneal Tendon Reflex
- Absence of Plantar Flexion
- Gastrocnemius Strain
- Posterior Tibial Pulse
